Burney Falls

Standing at 129 feet, Burney Falls are one of the most beautiful waterfalls I have seen in California. They are located less than an hour’s drive, north of Lassen Volcanic National Park.

Heading on a road trip through northern California? This gorgeous waterfall deserves a stop on your journey. In summer it  does get crowded, but not so much that you can’t enjoy them. In winter, it’s unlikely you’ll run into many people, although the trail and steps leading down to the falls might be covered in ice, depending on weather conditions. The water stays very cold even in summer, which can be a nice respite from the sweltering heat. It is located within a state park, there are cabins, a campground and a small general store stocked with essentials and serving some pretty tasty soft ice-cream.
